I like the ease of use and straight forward design, it would be even more useful if it extracted the data in a forensic platform so that it did not change the access date.

Its a simple yet straightforward tool. I like using it to check documents sent to me and see what and where the file is coming from.
Thanks Team.

Involved as plantiff in a minor civil action. I had searched for a method to view Metadata. MetaViewer let me see the info I needed. ie: Creation Date.

Nice job.

The best of the free metadata apps out there, although the interface is confusing. Each form has its own push-button--as if you could edit the info--, but they don't do anything.

Also, it gives a version number, but another program listed a different version number. Not sure which one was correct.

Lastly, what I *really* want an application to be able to do is list the saved dates and, in my wildest dreams, tell me what was edited and what they wrote.

I've found MetaViewer to be a helpful addition to a list of software packages that allow end users to be aware of the truth behind a document.

It's disturbing to notice the kind of information bundled at a word document, without "notice" of the users. A document posted on the internet can without knowledge of the owner be used for a different kind of purpose. A question, can those information be used on another document?

I'm not sure what I was expecting. Is it possible my files have no metadata? Except for the names and dates saved, which I could have found under "properties." Am I doing it wrong?

Review of MetaViewer Software (Free)

The graphical user interface is slick, user friendly and easy to use.
The software delivers and I would reccomend it for use by my colleuges in the legal fraternity. (scuse the spelling, no MSWord spell checker).
Without detracting from the brilliance of this software, not to mention ease of installation and use, Ideally, I need a way to determine whether emails and email attachments, have been tampered with. I have a case where I need to mine and interpret email attachments so as to determine the extent that third parties, have contributed to the generation of the contents of word documents which are attached to the email in question. I have downloaded and made use of software such as BinViewer 2.0 Personal edition to identify the authors of selected texts in a MSWord attachments, however, I have neither the skill nor the background to decipher the information genrated by such software, nor the skill to interpret the relevant information. It would be great to have software which, not only determines the existance of third pary intervention in the genraion of MSWord attachments, but also the identity of the author of the intervention complained of. For the avoidance of doubt, the term "third party intervention" should be interpreted as meaning the generation of third-party texts which are incorporated in a document (MSWord) by the so-called author of the MSWord attachment. In essence, I need to determine the identity of the author of such third-party texts so that I may sue the living c...p out of them.

OK as far as it goes.

Thanks for making this software and allowing me to use it. It helped me figure out something about word docs. Still, I doubt that I will ever use it again. The things it displays are already present in advanced document properties. 2 things would improve the program: the ability to edit all the displayed metadata. The display of the textual
metadata, like corrections.

Thanks and best regards,

Randy Lee

Good but

Metaviewer is a great product, easy, simple.
But I am looking for a Metaviewer which could handle muti format (Pctures, audio, docs,...)

Not Terribly Helpful

I was hoping to find a tool that would allow me to view a history of edits. The minutes edited field was quite useful, but the history trace feature was what I needed. The application itself is reasonably intuitive, but I was left asking whether there was more that this did, that was not apparent.

Not what I hoped

The program does not do what I had hoped. All it displays is file property information, which I could get directly through Windows Expolorer of the Office program. I was hoping to reveal hidden metadata (hidden text, deleted comments, track chages data, etc). Very dissapointed

Meta Viewer.

A good easy way of extracting the Meta Data from documents. Easy, simple, intuitive interface ideal for revealing what information is being broadcasts to prospective clients. A must for anyone who is dealing with confidential documents.

Could be better

The software is not bad at all, but does not give a lot of the additional information which can be found in the files. Basically you do not get much more info than you would get out of viewing file properties within the office apps.

Did not get all metadata from an Office 8.0 Document, in particular the authoring history and PID/GUID info.

Nothing to write home about

You can find the information given my MetaViewer by simply using Office features. Pretty useless if you are searching for additional data.

An Ok start

The MetaViewer is an ok application for what it was designed to do. I really needed it for other features that were not included but if there is some change hopefully in the future they will be. One of the more important things I was looking for was the metadata for each file looked at through MetaViewer (specifically the Creation Date, Modified Date and Accessed Date.) Also the ability to do so without changing the Accessed Date. Finally if the program could also batch capture and export the metadata that would be great.

Thank you for allowing me to evaluate this program.

Most of the information which I could get using that product I got from Word directly, I expected to find something else hidden into the word document somehow.
Thanks anyway for the trial.

pretty good metadata viewer

It contains some nice features and is easy to use. I am not sure it provides too many advantages over simply viewing the metadata using the original application that created the file.
